SR 10 (Atlantic Blvd) & SR A1A (3rd St)

Client: FDOT District 2

Services: Civil Engineering Design | Roadway Design | Permitting | Construction Administration

CSI addressed longstanding safety and traffic-flow concerns at one of the area's busiest coastal crossroads. The core of this project focused on reconfiguring the SR 10 / SR A1A intersection to reduce conflict points, improve turning movements, and upgrade pavement condition.

Pavement Resurfacing

Milling, resurfacing, and restriping approximately 900 feet of pavement through the intersection to restore ride quality and lane markings.

Raised Median Extension

Lengthening the existing raised median on 3rd Street to eliminate the southbound-to-eastbound Lemon Street left turn, reducing conflict points.

Right-Turn Lane Widening

Widening the eastbound Atlantic Boulevard right-turn lane to prevent vehicles with trailers from encroaching onto the sidewalk and pedestrian landing area.

Pedestrian Lighting

CSI coordinated the installation of new pedestrian-scale lighting at the northeast, southeast, and southwest corners of the intersection to enhance nighttime visibility and safety.

Pedestrian Safety Improvements

Beyond the core intersection, CSI extended pedestrian safety upgrades to nearby mid-block crossing locations along 3rd Street (SR A1A):

  • Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons (PHBs) installed on 3rd Street at the south side of Bay Street and at the south side of 15th Avenue N — providing pedestrians with a controlled, signalized crossing in locations not served by a full intersection signal.

  • Milling, resurfacing, and restriping 60 to 120 feet of pavement at each PHB location to align crosswalk markings with the new beacon positions.

  • Crosswalk refuge points added in medians and bulb-outs at crosswalk locations, preventing vehicles from parking in crosswalks and giving pedestrians a safe mid-crossing stopping point.

  • Coordinated additional lighting and drainage improvements at PHB locations to ensure all-hours visibility and proper stormwater management.
